FN Mle 1903 / Browning No.2

The FN Model 1903 (M1903, FN Mle 1903), or Browning No.2 was a self-loading semi-automatic pistol engineered by John Browning and made by Belgian arms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale (FN). It was introduced in 1903 and fired the 9×20mmSR Browning Long cartridge. It should not be confused with the US-made Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammer, nor with the Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless. The FN Model 1903 is based on the same mechanical design as this last one, which Browning sold to both companies (and others as well), but enlarged to handle the more powerful 9mm Browning Long cartridge. Due to its reliability, accuracy, light weight, and quick reloading, the M1903 was an issued sidearm for many police forces and militaries.

Le FN Mle 1903 (M1903) ou Browning No.2 est un pistolet semi-automatique conçu par John Browning et manufacturé par la Fabrique Nationale belge (FN). Il a été introduit en 1903 et tirait la cartouche longue de 9x20mmSR Browning. Il ne faut pas le confondre avec le modèle américain Colt 1903 Pocket hammer ou son équivalent hammerless. C’est d’ailleurs avec ce dernier que le FN Mle 1903 partage sa conception mécanique que Browning avat vendu aux deux compagnies mais modifié pour tirer la plus puissante cartouche 9mm Browning. Du fait de sa fiabilité, sa précision, son faible poids et rechargement rapide, le M1903 fut utilisé dans de nombreuses forces de police et armées.
