The Suomi KP/-31 (Suomi-konepistooli or “Finland-submachine gun”, literally: “Finland Machine-pistol”) is a submachine gun of Finnish design that was mainly used during World War II. The Suomi-konepistooli KP/-31 is often abbreviated to Suomi KP and appeared in 1925. The Suomi KP/-31 is regarded by many as one of the most successful submachine guns of World War II. It also had a profound effect on that conflict beyond Finland as the Soviet authorities, who had been dismissive of sub-machine guns, were persuaded of their deadly efficiency by the Finns after attacking them in 1939. Its 71-round drum magazine was later copied and adopted by the Soviets for their PPD-40 and PPSh-41 submachine guns. Though a relatively early design, the Suomi was a formidable weapon: highly controllable and with accuracy superior to that of the mass-produced PPSh-41 thanks in part to a noticeably longer barrel, with the same exceptionally high rate of fire and an equally large magazine capacity. Its one major disadvantage was its high production cost, which led to the later introduction of the KP/-44, a close copy of the Soviet PPS-43 but accepting the existing magazines and drums for the KP/-31.

Le Suomi KP31, en finnois : Suomi-konepistooli (littéralement en « français : machine-pistolet finlandais »), est un pistolet mitrailleur inventé en 1922 par l’ingénieur militaire finlandais Aimo Lahti et produit par l’entreprise Tikkakoski. Cette arme fut réglementaire dans l’armée finlandaise de 1931 à 1969 et utilisée durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le pistolet mitrailleur Suomi-KP/31, est souvent abrégé en KP Finlande, il a été fabriqué à partir de 1925. Le Suomi KP31 est considéré par beaucoup comme l’un des pistolets-mitrailleurs les plus efficaces de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, son chargeur tambour a été copié et adopté par les Soviétiques pour leurs pistolets mitrailleurs PPD 38 et PPSh-41 suite à la guerre d’hiver, en 1939, où l’armée soviétique se rend compte de la cruelle efficacité des pistolets mitrailleurs quand ses troupes en étaient plutôt dépourvues. La précision du Suomi KP31 est supérieure à celle du PPSh-41 produit en série, grâce à un canon notablement plus long, avec la même cadence de tir et un chargeur de capacité égale. Son principal inconvénient était son coût de fabrication élevé.
